چکیده

Abstract Land use and water resource management influence the suspended sediment concentration (SSC) in rivers. Fine sediments are an important driver for river development, even coarse-material-rich In this study, rating curve approach is modified to predict SSC several river-km downstream of a sampling site. Further, prediction improved by adding input, storage, dilution effects through relevant anthropogenic measures model identification approach. Thus, impact most severe measures, damming changes length channel section Rur River, could be identified. describing parameter those on can computed considered future management. approach, particle swarm optimization was used fit parameters permutable test- training data sets identify linear extensions curve. The input consists (1) SSC, which obtained along four times year over approximately two years, (2) discharge from gauges supplemented rainfall-runoff modeling between stations, (3) rainfall meteorological (4) sub-catchment characteristics like erosivity with GIS. Via incorporating deposition response damming, we reduced RMSE (root mean squared error) 152.27 131.83% p-value 0.073 Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Further integration led overfitting decreased accuracy. A catchment-wide achieved, but sub-catchments operate different spatial scales connectivity behavior, restricts transferability equation. SSC-Q hystereses provide first indications characteristic sources were discuss behavior within study area. They recommended as part (sub-) catchment characterization further studies.

Regional estimation of sediment yield using monthly sediment rating curve in Qarasu watershed

This study was aimed at identification and determination the spatial variations of sediment yield in Qarasu watershed located in Ardebil province, NW Iran, considering the negative consequences of erosion and sediment yield. In this regard, the monthly time scale, as the basis of work, was used to prepare the sediment rating curves. Preparation of monthly sediment rating curves based on sample ...

Investigation of Possibility of Suspended Sediment Prediction Using a Combination of Sediment Rating Curve and Artificial Neural Network Case Study: Ghatorchai River, Yazdakan Bridge

Estimation of sediment loads in rivers is one of the most important, difficult components of sediment transport studies and river engineering. Accessing new methods that can be effective in this background are more important. In this research, we have used the artificial neural network (ANN) to optimize the results of the sediment rating curve (SRC) to predict the suspended sediment loads. For ...

Trend analyses with river sediment rating curves

Sediment rating curves, which are fitted relationships between river discharge (Q) and suspended-sediment concentration (C), are commonly used to assess patterns and trends in river water quality. In many of these studies, it is assumed that rating curves have a power-law form (i.e. C= aQ, where a and b are fitted parameters). Two fundamental questions about the utility of these techniques are ...

Estimating fluvial sediment transport: The rating parameters

Correlations between suspended sediment load rating parameters, river basin morphology, and climate provide information about the physical controls on the sediment load in rivers and are used to create predictive equations for the sediment rating parameters. Long-term time-averaged values of discharge, suspended load, flow duration, flow peakedness, and temporally averaged values of precipitati...

Estimation of Sediment Transport Rate of Karun River (Iran)

Several types of sediment transport equations have been developed for estimation of the river sediment materials during the past decades. The estimated sediment from these equations is very different, especially when they applied for a specific river. Therefore, choice of an equation for estimation of the river sediment load is not an easy task. In this study 10 important sediment transport equ...
